Sundance 2008-the movies we have seen so far:

Sometimes, it is great to take a break from what your profession, and if you live in Utah, you have to experience Sundance Movie Festival.

Movies we have seen the first weekend. And, opinions of five people: myself, my husband and 3 friends who came to visit us from Baltimore, LA, and NY.
The Sundance movie festival rating includes: 4 rates: fair, ok?, good, and best.

January 18, Friday-World Documentary-"Triage: Dr. James Orbinski's Humanitarian Dilemma"-Dr. Orbinski, former president of Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors without Borders) and 1999 Nobel Peace Prize recipient, bore witness to horrendous suffering and extreme mortality rates during the famine in Somalia, as well as the unfathomable atrocities pf the Rwanda genocide in the 1990s.--"definitely interesting subject; however, movie does not meet the goal of the title. I personally felt very guilty after the movie, since the doctor repeatly says that we are all are not foing anything to help others." rate is ok?

January 19, Saturday-World Documentary-"Recycle"-what makes a terrorist? In Zarqa, Jorda's second-largest city with close to one million people, it is a much-debated question. Zarqa's politacal Islmist are a powerful force in this industrial center, and it is a birthplace of Abu Musa al Zarqawi...The movie slowly unravels some of the hidden agents of terrorism, revealing them as poverty, humiliation, lack of opportunity, and religious doctrine...--"Also interesting subject, little more interesting that previous movie; however, for me, the movies does not unravel agents of terrorism. I only saw how poor and religious focus people are. There are interesting shots. There is no reason to name movie "Recycle" even though the main charactor does have a job in recycling, but it shows very briefly and does not have any second meaning..." rate is little less than "good"

January 19, Saturday-Spectrum-"Love comes lately"-self-appoited bachelor in NY, Max Kohn (Otto Tausig) is accomplished writer whose walking life regularly commingles with his imaginary one.---You can see at least three story lines, Max is in real life, retiree named Simon, and sympathetic gent named Henry. It was a sweet storylines, but with too many stories at the same time. rate is little better than "Recycle"

January 19, Saturday-Premieres-"Towelhead"-directorial debut, Six Feet Under creator and American Beauty screenwriter Alan Ball once again unearths the dirty secrets...Based on novel by Alicia Erian.---I loved this movie, lots of happening. Movie captures many issues: anti-Arab sentiment that came to a boil after 9/11, racism, etc. rate is best

January 20, Sunday-World Documentary-"A complete history of my sexual failures"-when scaggly, endearingly hapless filmmaker Chris Waitt gets dumped by his girlfriend-the last in a long line of disastrous affeirs-he resolves to find out what exactly is wring with him.---Hilarious movie, the only movie you should stay for "Q and A". Chris is as funny in real life as in movie.
